Design of a detached breakwater

Client: LLX Minas - Scales: 1/42.3 (2D) - 1/64 (3D)

Context

In order to protect the future ore carrier terminal and a multi-purpose quay in Açu, Brazil, LLX Minas intends to build a 2.2 km long offshore breakwater at water depths between 12 and 14 m.

Description of the physical models

ARTELLIA conducted wave tank stability tests to finalise an initial running profile in terms of stability under wave attack and overtopping, then a wave tank study in which the entire breakwater with the two roundheads was represented.
